A good 'ranndonee'...

Having lived here for three months now we decided it was time for an afternoon out and set of to visit the Scevolles forest, with its maze of footpaths and L'etang de Guesnes.

The journey took us through the village of Monts sur Guesnes, with its chateau and crossed the route of La Ligne Verte, a disused railway track which has been converted into a cycle track and footpath, running for 37 kilometres from Chatellerault to Loudun.

We made a mental note to return with our bikes in the warmer weather.

Within the forest there are waymarked routes suitable for all levels of fitness. La Sente des Acacias runs for 5 kilometres whilst La Sente de la Source is a path of 1250m accessible to all, including wheelchair users.

Our choice of walk was limited to the 2150m Sente des Mares, due to work on some of the trees lining the longer routes.

Each stage of the walk is designed with children in mind and there are signs and labels to give information and entertainment at every turn.

The photos speak for themselves; so enjoy!

There are several carvings in the forest

An imaginative climbing frame and yes, I did try it out!

If you're feeling like bursting into song....

And if you need to sit and take in the view....

There is much to see at any time of year as the following notice boards show...

All in all, a good 'ranndonee' for adults and children alike.
