This man can move mountains...

Major earthworks are underway to partly fill in a large hole we have in the garden.

There is a tale behind this hole...

The previous owner of La Croix Blanche had it excavated for either a pond or a swimming pool. As there is no fresh water supply or outlet the former is impractical and the hole is just too big for a swimming pool.

Over the past 17 months we've used it to dump all our garden waste, including over fifty leylandii, each over twenty feet tall...

However, the time has come to fill part of it in and Monsieur Bourreau is our man on the job.

He arrived today tasked with taking the mound of soil he originally dug out of the hole for the previous owner and putting it back where it came from. We don't blame him for looking slightly puzzled...

After the first few bucket fulls it was obvious he was going to be here forever so he set off home to bring reinforcements in the shape of another tractor....

However...having filled the bucket on this second tractor he realised that he had welded the joint where the bucket should pivot. So nothing for it but to empty the bucket manually.

Off he went again to do the necessary repairs. These done, he could get down to the job in earnest....

TO BE CONTINUED!!
