Cinnabar Moth

First thing yesterday morning I saw a Cinnabar Moth on the outside of the kitchen window. This photo shows its underside through the window...

By the time I went outside to take another photo it had flown.

However, later in the day we spotted it again flying in the garden and eventually it landed within camera range..

The Cinnabar is a relatively common moth, which flies by day. It's bold, bright colouring warns predators that it is extremely unpleasant to eat.

Oh well! We'll have to find something else for tea then, Colin!
